CDC requests that FDA provide a SARS-CoV2 test by Dec 31, 2021 that will differentiate C***D from the flu.

Could this be the reason the flu was almost non existent this year, and those numbers helped escalate C***D data? Get ready folks.

I think you may be misreading this. They want one test panel that can be used to test for both c***d and flu together. This may be so people don't have to submit to two tests since the symptoms are very similar. Often the best flu medications, like Tamiflu are only given to those who test positive for a flu variant.

They truly may be wanting a test panel that will test for both together, but does that mean the current test cannot tell the difference between the Flu v***s and C***D? Since the flu has been almost non existing for the latest season, how many false positive C***D diagnoses were actually the flu?

The current C***d tests do or did have a very high incidence of false positives, but I understood that was related to sample amplification. I never heard that having the flu would make you test positive for C***d. That of course, is probably not information that would have been widely circulated if true.

The thrust of testing is going to slowly t***sition from testing large batches of healthy people to see who has c***d, like say testing entire student bodies returning to class, to testing those who are ill to see exactly what they have. I think that is driving the creation of a test panel that would eliminate two illnesses vs. one.

Interesting point. The last time I got the flu bad (12 days in bed) resulted from skipping the flu shot. The local clinic I go to did not have a v*****e for older folk available in a timely manner. I went to Baja and picked up the swine flu there. Misery. I now go to the local CVS pharmacy for my flu shot every year.

Let me add that I did come down with the flu two or three years ago but with a mild reaction due to my having been v******ted. I could walk around feeling half-way normal.

I listen to the irrational utterances of individuals who scoff at the flu shot, but I have stopped arguing with them. The same for the Chinese k**ler v***s.

Well then, how about a 'rational utterance'... First and last flu shot I got was in the USAF in 1975. I was sicker than a dog for over a week and in the hospital for three days. I don't get the flu. Been around people with it at various times throughout my life and didn't get it. Needless to say, I don't get flu shots. I don't scoff at them, they're just not for me.

Gambling with our health by rejecting the annual flu shot has an irrational component to it.

"Gambling with our health" because I don't get a flu shot? That was a joke, right?

Perhaps I should've expressed my thought this way: "Gambling with one's health."

Let us note that the flu also k**ls people every year, by the thousands. So, getting the flu v*****e makes sense.

For some. Not for all. For you. Not for me. That's how it works. We're not all the same.
