Finally caved in and upgraded considering the latest upgrade offer from my carrier. Pulled it out of my pocket and captured a couple momentary images on Squam Lake (NH). These are not post-processed at all. Setting was at High Efficiency that yields a small(er) file size. Has RAW capability but seems you can't get from there to a PC, just a Mac or via ICloud. Maybe not for the purists out there but overall, not bad, all factors considered.

Mac has a program that allows you download the HEIC files directly to the computer. I'm sure there is something out there to do the same on a Windows machine.

I have a Sony RX100 m3. When I bought the iPhone 11Pro a couple years ago, I compared the pics with the Sony versus the iPhone 11 and decided I liked the latter better. Not sure how the iPhone 12 has been improved, but yes, the iPhones are definitely capable to serve for things that are close (and some of the other phones are supposed to be even better).
PS. Even some of my pics with my older iPhones have been some of my favorites, like this one that was taken with iPhone 4 more than 10 years ago:

It has 3 lenses but no where near 10x zoom which I think it's standard on so called bridge camera today. Also I thought the Nikon F was the bridge camera.

Web use? Great as almost any phone now.
Printing large? Forget it.

So the final use is always the most important issue.

And void the potential quality. Good advice.

Not bad for a phone camera. It isn't going to replace a 100mm macro lens on a DSLR. Maybe the next generation will. Still, it's really useful when you seen something you want to capture and you don't want to lug a heavy DSLR around. Nice photos.

12MP from a tiny sensor surely can't give impressive large prints without heaps and heaps of post processing. Also maybe what is large? 10x8? 7x5? Its a relative term. The biggest enlargement for any of my photos is on my 27" iMac screen and I don't post process other than cropping and straightening. For me my iPhone 11 Pro produces shots that have a slight unreal quality - not quite what I remember but needs must if I don't have a better camera then I use my iphone.
