Oregon vacation part one

Will be working August and September without a day off, so headed down to Oregon City to visit friends. Of course, you can't take an old camera to visit old friends, so I traded in the Z50 for a Z5 (used, but new to me), and am plenty satisfied.

These seem quite dark on my MacBook - are they evening shots?

Yep, they be evening shots. I was testing out the IBIS (in body image stabilization), so left the tripod in the car.

The new camera is a keeper. Love the compositions and how you exposed them. The first image with the gritty buildings and chemical stained vats made me think of Chernobyl. I loved the middle images where the sunset skyline and beautiful stillness of the stream on the left side of the image is interrupted by the rushing waterfall and rapids draining into a basin on the right side of the image. Beautifully done.

Thanks, Joe. The river is the Willamette, and the little fall there is Willamette Falls in Oregon City, which used to be the capital of Oregon. Its interesting you say the ruins look like Chernobyl. They were used in the show "The Librarians" to stand for industrial ruins in some European country (Czechloslovacia I think, and I don't know if I spelled that right).

That "creek" is the Willamette River, and the falls is called Willamette Falls/Oregon City Falls (2nd largest falls by volume in the NorthWest) and is located between Oregon City and West Linn. And those buildings are part of the Blue Heron paper mill site and the OLD Willamette Falls Electric (PGE) Power Plant (opened in June 1889 on 22 Acres). (closed in 2011) At one time Station A provided power for all of Clackamas County. The Willamette River travels on through Portland and empties into The Mighty Columbia River just N-NW of Portland

Fact: Around the falls are the locks, which are the oldest continuously operating multi-lift lock and canal system in the United States.

Thanks, Mike. You got that right about "work" (excuse my language).
