This is my second time trying to get close-ups using extension tubes. I have a long way to go but I will keep on practicing. Neighborhood has some nice flowers.

Looks as if you take some pretty nice pictures of the neighborhood flowers too.

Looking good. The problem with close ups is depth of field is greatly reduced. Try to shoot at f8 or higher

I would say you are getting the hang of it. #s 2 and 5 are very nice!

Nothing against macro lenses. Can't afford at the moment. I have looked at the 100mm

I think you'll get a bit sharper stepped down, beyond a bit more DOF. Use your Live View from a Tripod and use the 10x zoom and let the camera achieve focus with a single AF-point on a very fine detail of the flowers. I really like the Salmon-Pink image where I looked at the details. In LiveView, you'll pick one of the edges / tips of the center flower petals to focus.

Good job..! Extension tubes are quite handy in that a normal set of three sizes can be used individually, in combination or all three together. They are also available in 'auto focus' variety which makes them so much the better. I find the sweet-spot for the setting of the aperture to be from f/8 to f/11. Much beyond that and diffraction tends to produce a less sharp image.

As we focus closer a diffused flash that produces a soft even light helps bring out detail and prevents shadows that may be caused from our body or from the camera being so close to the subject.

And...for a quite special view, put a section of extension tube on a wide angle lens to open the doors to a new view of the world.
