Taking an Alaska cruise next year and decided to upgrade from my Canon 50D with several EF lenses to the Canon R6 and a converter. Also added the Tamron150-600 G2. Looking for honest opinions, feedback and any helpful advice on the use of my new set up. Also any tips on shooting Alaska. Thanks.

Too late to give advice on the purchase but I bet you will enjoy the Tamron 150-600mm G2. I love the one I have.

Which 70-300 ?? The latest 70-300 IS II nano is a GREAT lens - I would be sure to take that one !

Using the 150-600 from a boat may be problematic ! The 28-135 will serve you well.

It's the original70-300 IS. Not the newer one.

How did you decide between the R5 and R6? I’m selling my R tomorrow and really struggling to hit the order button on one or the other.

The IBIS of the EOS R6 will make the 17-40 and nifty-fifty lenses even better. The idea of changing to the newest EF 70-300 IS II is justified for the image quality, assuming you use this lens enough to justify another $500 ish expense.

I used my 150-600 from a boat with no issues, you just need to remember hand held with VR on. From my experience crank the shutter speed up more than what you think. For example, using 600 shutter speed on a boat is way to slow. Hopefully you will have enough light where you can keep the iso at a respectable level.

You might want to share your opinions with this poster - asking about switching from 5D to R5.

Resqu2:
Came down to price and capability. For my needs it made more sense to get the R6 and spend the additional $1400 on a nice piece of glass to expand my reach in the field. R6 may “only” be 20 np but with the ibis and the 1D processor it performs better than most cameras with more pixels. Just my conclusion based on hours of research. Your needs may be different.

Thanks for the input all. I have 13 months before the cruise so I might just upgrade my 70-300 before then.
