A good friend and accomplished photographer, Olga Torrey, will be discussing this in a webinar on B&H Event Space on 7/22/21 at 5:00 PM. She is "originally from the Ural Mountains in Siberia, Russia, and has lived in New York City for the past 27 years. She is a fine artist and Life Member of the Art Students League of New York. As a fine artist, she now applies her talent and skills to photography. Olga spends as much time as possible photographing NYC, wildlife, and the underwater environment. Olga has taken photographs from Papua New Guinea to the Arctic. Her work has been published in PNG Air's in-flight magazine, InVetrum, X-Ray Magazine, Northeast Dive News, Sports Diver, and The Ultimate Depth. In 2017, she was a DivePhotoGuide.com Photographer of the Week."

Her stuff is certainly worth a look. . .

Gonna look for her work for sure! The only wildlife I remember in my old neighbourhood was rather large rodents, stray dogs and cats and the great animals in the Bronx Zoo (not in my neighbourhood). I had to take the Subways and that's where the rats hung out! There were pigeons and the birds were mostly sparrows. I suppose the habitat has improved.

The Art Students League is a great place. I took some painting and drawing classes there back in the early 60s. The teachers were kind enough not to throw me out. Back in the day, I don't recall too much emphasis on photography there but I was able to glean some knowledge of painting techniques that aided me, later on, I'm my art reproduction work.

Thanks for the recommendations. I need to see some outstanding work!

Most of the wildlife in the City can be found, on a daily visit, to the Village.

Careful, now - I am a former New Yorker and that wasn't very nice.

From the perspective of a New Yorker, the bulk of the wildlife comes in waves of summer and fall migrations, from out of town or international locations, dressed oddly and doing/saying silly things. But they bring and spend lots of money and we love them.

I didn't put it in the opening post because in the past the post has been automatically moved to another forum.

FYI, she shoots with a variety of cameras, but most often uses a bridge - easier to manage when riding her bicycle. Her underwater photography is exceptionally good.

I spent the first 25 years of my life living in Queens. And the next 30 working in and around the City. All of my favorite restaurants were below 14th street (the Village). My Village shot was a joke. Lighten up. If you go to the Halloween day parade in the Village- you will see what I meant

The smile with a wink completely invalidates your advice to "lighten up"

Anyway, yes, I made a point of never missing the Halloween parade in the "West Village" but I routinely spent a lot of time in the East Village, from Lafayette to Alphabet City, from 14th to Houston. Many of my friends lived in the area, and for part of my higher education, I attended NYU, and took courses at The New School.

I agree, lightening up is a good thing. So lighten up boberic.
