Apparently not double the price in this condition. This one is in "this condition" and already priced.

Jim, I would not buy a lens with fungus. It will deteriorate image quality. Stan

If the fungus is in between two elements that are cemented together, that will cost far more to repair than the lens is worth. Not to mention that fungus has spores that are airborne and could land on other lenses in your storage cabinet or in your bag when you are on the move.

Worth noting that those spores are in the air everywhere all the time. As long as three conditions (high humidity, high temperature and darkness) are not present, the lens cannot develop fungus. And if those three condions are met, any lens will develop fungus anywhere, whether in the presence of other lenses with prior fungus growth or not.

That being said, if you are not confident in taking the rear elements out and cleaning them, that will cost you enough to have bought the lens in better condition to start with.

FUNGUS is the operational word as far as value.
I see that and keep on going regardless of price as I do not wish to deal with an issue that will continue deteriorating regardless. Unless a complete teardown and replacement of affected glass.

Worth noting that those spores are in the air ever... (show quote)

These lenses are easy to find without fungus for not much more than the lens you have found. Keep in mind that elements move back and forth any time you focus any lens. This causes air to move in and out of the lend, through your camera, and out to the atmosphere. On many Nikon cameras, the vent is near the viewfinder eyepiece. That means that when the fungus is active, the spores will move into your camers, and possibly even into your eye.

Best choice is to find a different copy of the lens from a different source, as others have already suggested.

Not only that but you run the risk of the fungus propagating to other lenses that come in proximity to the infected lens.

A lens like this if "for parts only". You can't clean it off.
