52 Years. Ago Today
Good old days!!! I was in the 3rd grade when Shepard made the first trip into space. My teacher set up a tv so we could all watch the blastoff.
My first thought was what if the dang thing blew up in front of the kids?
My second thought was the risk was well worth the sight and memories.
My third thought was related to the risks/rewards of today.
My fourth thought was stop thinking about all this nonsense
Well, this is a great, thought provoking picture.
... I was watching it in 'black & white'!

Watched this on B/W TV, 1969 in a little hooch bar in Tay Ninh Vietnam
By the distance...I wasn't too far away from her.
I was 9 at the time...those were the days.
I got to watch 3 Saturn launches in person...makes everything else we have sent up since seem...like a bottle rocket.

I was there that day. I had an Uncle who worked for NASA and he got us passes.

I remember it well... That was back when we could do something with anything, because we had done plenty with nothing for so long!
My God how time flies. Seems like only yesterday that I was downstairs in my parents basement with a reel to reel recording the first moon landing, but over the course of time moving I lost the tape. Wish I could have found it would like to have listened to it again. The tape lasted 4 hours. I could have been worth some money in today's market.
Just think though…. More technology in our cell phones today than we placed a man on the moon with.
The same day I landed in Da Nang, RVN to begin the first of two tours with the Navy Seabees, “winning hearts and minds.”
