These Steller’s jays are loud and raucous! They are clowning around here with a piece of bread. They frequent a Santa Barbara restaurant called Cold Springs Tavern (the tavern began operating as a stagecoach stop in 1868 and has several interesting structures, including a jailhouse). In the 1940’s it was purchased and turned into a tavern and restaurant. It’s located in the San Marcos pass in the mountains. It’s quirky and fun, and I’m not sure the proprietors are completely enamored of the jays, but they are entertaining and funny (although they will steal your food if you don’t stay focused). These are mostly young fledglings (you can see the rictal flanges of their beaks). The colors of their feathers are otherworldly, an incredible blue.
Excellent definition! What lens? Your a7r4?

Oh, not an A7r4, Mike. I recently bought a Sony A1, to get sharper pics. My RX10 is great, but I wanted more detail. This lens is the 100-400.

They are posers! Pretty tame since there are usually restaurant patrons around although they were closed on this particular day yesterday. Thanks!
A great set. Love your capture of the butterfly, very nice bokeh in the background. Mahalo for sharing.

Thanks so much, JoAnne! Appreciate your comment!
Fun subjects, phv...we have three young Scrub Jays hanging around our bird feeders terrorizing the other birds!!
Really nice. Our Bluejays are loud and audacious, too.

I bet! We only have them in our mountains, but the scrub jays terrorize my feeder birds! An aggressive yet entertaining species!
Thanks!
