In Plumas county there is a beautiful hike that can be done to the top of the Sierra Buttes. It is ~5 mile round trip with a ~ 1900ft elevation change. When you get to the end of the trail there is a steep 180 step steel staircase up to the very top where an old historic fire lookout sits (Not for folks with Acrophobia as there are sheer drop offs on either side). From the top you are rewarded with breath taking views in all directions . Last week my brother in law and went on the hike (I have done this hike many times in the past and always enjoy it). Below are some shots of this hike from the other day. I will send out a separate post on some of the flowers and critters along the hike.

Hi Longshadow
Thanks for viewing the images from the Sierra Buttes hike and for the Thumbs up.
Great hike! What is the elevation involved? The trail looked very nice, but at 82 I doubt that I will ever get to take it.

Hi UTMike
Thanks for viewing the shots of the Sierra Buttes hike. The hike starts at ~ 6600 feet and the top is ~8500 ft. It is considered a moderate hike as the round trip is only ~ 5 miles but it is all up hill in one direction and then all down in the other. Below are a couple of shots of at the bottom of the staircase that describe the Sierra Buttes and the Staircase to get to the very top. I have seen some older folks who are in reasonable shape going on this hike (I'm pushing 70 and I don't find all that hard, just make sure you have water as there is none available along the way).

Thanks, my mountain hikes start at ~8900 and go up to 10,500, so I have to take it slow, especially on the higher rated ones.

Hi UTMike
This one would be a piece of cake compared to starting at 8900 feet.
Thanks for taking me on your hike. Nice images.

Hi Cwilson341
This for viewing the photos from the hike up the Sierra Buttes and for the comment. It is not too strenuous if you take your time but it is well worth the effort.
