It finally happened. I dropped my Sony a6000 with a Sony 4/18-105 lens attached while taking photos of Granddaughter at a softball tournament. I didn't believe it hit too hard from about 18" to the ground. I guess it did since it will no longer focus. I tried it on my Sony a6600 with the same result, so it is the lens not the camera. I bought it used from a UHHer about 3 years ago. Great walk-around for trips. Should I try to have it repaired, or just look for a replacement? If repaired -- with whom? I'm in Delaware. No warranty since it was purchased from an individual.
Thanks in advance.

For starters you need a repair cost estimate to compare with a replacement cost.

If the lens won't focus on either camera, I'd be willing to bet the problem is with the lens and not the camera. I would take it to a Best Buy or a local camera shop and try (and buy, if that's your preference) a new lens and then if you wanted to go used, I would go to Robert's or MPB. Good luck and I'll bet it's the lens. Let us know.
I have one from a California shop for $295 parts and $150 labor. Can get an excellent used copy from mbps for $459. Probably looking in the mbp direction.
Sorry, that's mpb. Fingers ...
Thanks. I'm about an hour (considering traffic) away. Might give a call.
I used these folks a couple years ago for Sony camera repair and was very satisfied. Perhaps a phone call to them would be helpfull:
https://www.precisioncamera.com/Also, Midwest camera repair in Wyandotte, Mi. Helped me on a couple of vintage lenses.
Best of luck whatever you do and let us know how it turns out.

For $14, I myself would go with a replacement then.
The quote probably doesn't include possible unforeseen additional parts.
But you need to decide.....
Look at the cost of new or used for the same lens. My quick search makes it seem like about $420 used. An estimate that approaches $300 is probably the repair vs buy another decision point. Factor in the shipping and insurance costs in the repair option.

Um, he already said the problem was the lens.

KEH does lens repair. They have fixed rates. Get an estimate from them; they do good work in my experience.

I dropped my A77 ll, sent it to Precision Camera in Enffield Connecticut. Had to replace the in camera focus slider.
$450.00 to repair. Repair took 1 month. Really great customer service contact agents. Camera came back like new.

Just curious, have you tried a couple of other lens on your A6000 camera to make sure it is working correctly also? Sorry for your loss & good luck with your purchase.
