ID Help Please Horse Fly or?

While photographing some bees and wasps (just posted some Mud Dauber shots) this guy flew in. Larger than the Honey bees and Bumblebees around, it landed, drank some water and flew off!

We are surrounded by Horse properties, so this type of critter might be expected.

Located in the PNW, if that helps.

I've seen heads and a proboscis like that on "green heads" in Southern Ontario.
Them buggers draw blood!!!
I thought horse-flies were all grayish, including the eyes.

Great pictures. I have no idea of what they are, but the pictures are clear and right on! Thank you for sharing!

Nice images. It is a horsefly. Not sure of the species but I know they have a nasty bite.
