This came out of a conversation with John Lawrence (basically his idea!) caring for cast iron, plus. It is a Link to a lot of Cast Iron Info, I found it for my daughter and had saved it. Has nothing to do with photography, but a good bit to do with Cooking, so here rather than Links & Resources. IMO, worth reading the topics that interest you.

http://www.castironcollector.com/numbers.phpThanks for posting this, QD. I’m anxious to learn how others clean their cast iron pans as I’ve never really figured it out.

GREAT LINK here, quixdraw!! Thanks so much!!
I was happy to find that I'm doin' most of this:
After each use, observe these protocols:
-Allow the pan to cool completely to room temperature on its own
-Wipe out any leftover oil and bits of food
-Rinse the pan under warm running water
-Loosen any stuck-on bits of food with a non-abrasive scouring pad, like a plastic SOS™ Tuffy™
-Avoid dishwashing liquid or other soap until your pan has a very well-established seasoning
-Dry thoroughly with paper towel
-Place cleaned and dry pan on low heat for a minute or two to evaporate any residual moisture (don't walk away)
-Wipe warm pan all over with a very small amount of oil, e.g. 1 tsp. canola oil
I'll start the paper towel nesting thing, now!
Very fun site to peruse. lots of good tidbits....
Thanks for contributing to the thread.

That is a good site.
I wash my cast iron and dry it and then put it in the oven to finish drying. My Hubby and I have an ongoing inside joke about "a pan in the oven" and will leave creative notes so no one will turn the oven on when the pan is in there.
