And not a soul in sight on a grey overcast day! This is in front of Old Faithful Inn a few weeks before they opened this past May.

We got in on May 14 and there wasn't much open. Made for easy going. Canyon was empty and it made for some nice pics of the falls with a little snow decorating things. Hayden was almost animal free, but Lamar is our favorite hang-out. The only other time we will return will be in October as the crowds are just too much!

BTW, we had varying amounts of snow on five different days along with some short road closures.

Many years ago, I went opening week end. Not as empty as your photo, but pretty darn nice.

This is a marvelous old, huge lodge and well worth a visit if you ever get a chance to visit this area, Jim. Like Dave mentions in his post below, if you do, do it in October!!

We arrived on May 23rd and experienced similar weather as you Dave. We always used to go in Late Sept. and are gonna rethink going in the spring. The line of cars entering from the West Yellowstone entrance was backed up all the way to the Madison Junction when we left on Memorial weekend...what a mess of humanity!!

I remember those days, QD. When we made those trips with the kids in late August, 1970's you could shoot a gun and not hit anything...today you'd maim a dozen people!!
