I'm not familiar with this company... but a couple days ago, I received an invitation to download their new photo editor beta. It's touted like a lot of editors as "showing great promise as a Photoshop" replacement. Their website has a few videos that appear to be helpful, as well. I've only messed with it once and since I'm old and German, it's not intuitive to my mindset yet. But... I think it has promised. Anyway, if you're interested, here's a link to the beta download webpage.

I'm extremely familiar with ACDSee software. I've used it since it was shareware in 1994-95. It started as a photo management (DAM) application and much later added photo editing to the package. The DAM end is probably the best in the business, since they've been doing it longer than anyone. It is very thorough and does pretty much anything you can imagine as a photo catalogue app.

It's photo editing is very good, and includes layers, and is pretty simple to learn. I prefer Affinity Photo editor, which is perhaps a bit more powerful. Not sure what this new photo editing package will be like, but until now at least I think ACDSee has done everything they know how to do with the editing interface in ACDSee Ultimate. With this new separate app I can only imagine they will begin to withhold improvements much like PS does with PS Elements. I doubt this would be a good thing for users, designed only to improve the cash flow of the company, not it's user base. I do recommend ACDSee Ultimate to those needing a robust state of the art photo cataloger, and it's included photo editor is not to be sneezed at. ACDSee Ultimate 21 and Affinity Photo are both opened at all times on my PC. They work perfectly together. I'll add that the new editor would have to be better than Affinity Photo and cheaper, for me to bite. As it is I really don't use ACDSee editor much at all.
