Your opinions on Sigma 18-35 1.8

Thinking of getting the Sigma 18-35 1.8 as a travel and everyday use lens. I currently have the Nikon kit lens 18-140. Is this Sigma going to show me results that are that much sharper? I see great reviews on the Sigma but I dont know if I will truly see a great bit of difference? Thoughts? I forgot to tell you I have a Nikon D7200.

I have the Tameron 10-24 and love it but you might want a different range. I have crop sensor camera with a 1.6 factor

I do not have one, but I do know many complain about the AF accuracy. Personally, I roll with the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 and a Canon 70-300 on Canon and very happy.

Strictly optically, I think either Sigma 18-35 or 17-70 will be an upgrade you will notice - just my educated opinion.

Mine works fine. Using it on a D850

It a great DX lens but it seems kind of out of place on a D850. A more appropriate choice for the D850 would be the full frame Sigma 24-35 f/2.

I'm a Canon shooter and the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is the sharpest lens I own and use on my Canon 7D Mark II. While it works well at f/1.8, I find I get sharper images by stepping it down to f/2 to f/2.8. Be aware that it is a very large and heavy lens and is built like a tank. The zoom is internal and lens does not expand and contract in size. It weighs around 29 ounces if I recall correctly.

Using it close in, mostly indoors and within 10-15 ft. I do find a much higher amount of AF inaccuracy than I would prefer. However, in most real world situations especially outdoors or in larger indoor venues where I'm shooting at greater distances than 10 or 15 feet I rarely seem to have AF issues, especially If I'm stopped down a bit. I'm a Canon shooter and my understanding is that this may be a more common issue on Canon bodies than on Nikons.

The sigma 18-35 1.8 Art is nice but a bit big and heavy for a walkabout.
Also when used on the D7200 do not use the outer AF points (or use live view). I got good AF accuracy using the Sigma dock and D7200 fine tune settings , except on the outer AF points.

I have one for my Nikon APS and routinely make 20x30 prints. It is very sharp. The DP reviews once rated it as the sharpest APC zoom - I believed it!

I used that lens once at a Sigma sponsored workshop. My limited usage yield a limited opinion. The results were sharp, bokeh was at a level that was unattainable with other lenses on an APS-C body. So, separation of subject and background was attainable. BUT, at those focal length, and the environment of my shoot (car dealership and models) The compositional opportunities didn't really present themselves to me.

NOT opinion: this lens is quite heavy!

My budget for $800+ lenses would lead me to other choices. I'd choose f2.8 or f4 for the 15-40mm range and save the money and extra weight.

I had both lenses and preferred the Sigma for sharpness; but the 18-140 pretty much lived on the D500 for its range. You might be better off buying a 35 f/1.8 prime for low light and sharpness.

Knowing how Nikon lenses are formulated, I prefer Nikon glass to any aftermarket stuff.
