Sony RX 100 M VII guide ?

Upgraded to the M 7 version of this camera series from the M3. Having a bit of trouble absorbing the intricacies of Focusing - "Focusing Standard", Focus Modes, Focus Areas: when to use which, work process of using, default settings, etc. The Sony Manual is difficult for me to wend my way through even with search box help. I know there are independents out there who publish guides that are clearer or easier to navigate learning. Any recommendations from you "Hoggers" ? Thanks

I have the M7, and I got Gary Friedman’s book, “The Friedman Archives Guide to the Sony RX100VII. It’s excellent, easy to read and understand. I think you find Gary’s book well worth the price. You can get it as an e-book as well as a hard copy.

The M7’s menu is extensive because the camera has such an extensive array of features and controls. It takes some getting used to, but very shortly it begins to make sense.

Gary Friedman books are excellent. He explains clearly not only how to use a certain feature, but why you might use it and his preference. His RX100vii is available on Amazon here:

And here's a decent YouTube video about the focus system:

I have White's guide to the VI which I have, and find his guide to be excellent. For me despite it's tiny size this is a complex, difficult to learn camera and need all the help I can get. Part the reason is that this is my first Sony and I am not familiar with the huge array of menu options.

The Sony menu is challenging for first timers. I guess I had a leg up since I’ve had an A6000 and now an A6300, so the transition to the RX100M7 was easy.

I also bought the White guide and find it outstanding. Go through it systematically and you will learn and adapt to the Sony operating system, I believe. There are a lot of functions that I will likely not use and I find the assignment of my needed functions fit nicely into the quick function call-up with a 1-button link to serve my needs. Then, when I "graduate" to need for higher end functions, I can put them on the Fn key or a custom key to suit my work flow. Don't be intimidated - these are high-end provideing pro level function cameras and you will adapt to your work flow soon. White has it all in his guide, just up to us to learn and use to meet our needs. (Use the digital version to adapt to your type size needs).
