RX100 or LEICA D LUX 6!!!!!

Hi everyone.
I am looking at buying either a Leica D LUX 6 or the Sony RX100 as a POCKETABLE camera to keep about my person at all times. My main interest in photography is Landscape, street & aviation and I use the Nikon F6, D200 CONVERTED TO INFRARED, D300, D700 & D800 and some good glass. I must admit, I have never used a compact/p&s camera but feel a good compact would be handy to keep with me all the time, specially as I walk about 10 - 20 miles on Dartmoor at least 5 days out of 7. I don't feel its worth carrying all my landscape gear every day on the off chance the conditions are right for the odd good image (not getting any younger), I generally make a specific trek at a specific time for my landscape photography with a specific image idea in my head.
Has anyone had experience with either (The Leica would be the lumix LX7 version) or both of these compacts?????? I'm finding it very difficult to choose.

I have the Sony RX-100 for the same reasons and it takes wonderfull pictures (see samples below).

I cannot speak to the Leica but in August I purchased a Sony RX100 and highly recommend it. The performance of the optics-sensor-display system is truly remarkable and will replace all needs I have for an interchangeable lens system except ultra-extreme wide angles and telephotos.
One shortfall of the RX100 is the Instruction Manual that comes with the camera is wholly inadequate. However, a comprehensive User Guide is available at:

I bought the Canon S100...I was between the LX5 and the S100, the S100 is small and fits in my front pocket very easily and that's what ended up being the deciding factor. Love the camera and the quality of the pictures and video it takes.

I contemplated buying the Panasonic Lunix LX7 or the Sony RX100, both have good reviews although the cameras don't quite overlap in specification. If you want a 'note-taking' camera as a pre-requisite for taking a Nikon photo, do you really need to outlay such a large amount of money on a compact? Why not pick up a Lumix LX3 which is capable of super results.
To get used to a compact I bought a second hand LX1 on eBay and have been delighted with the results.
And, yes, I have a Sony RX100 but until I have all of, spare battery, a battery charger (Sony don't supply one in the box), a screen protector, a better strap, and a ClearViewer, I don't intend to use it. If you haven't come across the ClearViewer do a Google search. It transformed my use of the LX1!
Conclusion: it's all too easy for me to persuade myself that a certain bit of gear would improve my lot. Experience tells me otherwise. Take care how you spend your money - what camera best fits your needs? Do you need the latest? Do you need new?

I just purchased the RX100 last night -- I am eager to receive it.
I was swayed by the sensor size (much larger on the RX100) and the ISO (maximum 25.6K vs 12.8K)
The RX100 is also a little smaller
(I doubt I would even notice the 50 gram difference?? The camera will be in my wife's purse while we are out, she might notice the difference)
I like the hot shoe on the LX7, but decided that it defeats that purpose of a "pocket camera" if I have to carry a flash -- I will take my D700 in those instances

Many thanks everyone, it has been great to hear your views, & as my wife has just booked up a holiday for us to the Canary Islands for a winter break in January, my choice will get rather more use than expected. With all the hassle at airports these days and restrictions on cabin luggage, ie, weight & size Etc., taking my Nikon gear, as I always used to, would be a pain in the proverbial backside. So, I think it will be the Sony RX100, and as Bwright said, it will fit nicely into my wife's purse when out and about.

I just checked out a site by Richard Franiec that offers an optional right-handed grip. I think I'm going to get it. I have BIG hands and there isn't a whole lot for me to hold on to with the small size of the RX100.

The Richard Franiec grip is worth the money. It transforms the ergonomics of the RX 100. Well made, easy to attach, very nice addition.

I know these are HORRIBLE pics but I think they show the resolution of the camera. These are straight from the card without post processing.
