I just received this in one of my old email boxes. If I watched porn, I might have fallen for this.

Greetings!

I have to share bad news with you.
Approximately few months ago I have gained access to your devices, which you use for internet browsing.
After that, I have started tracking your internet activities.

Here is the sequence of events:
Some time ago I have purchased access to email accounts from hackers (nowadays, it is quite simple to purchase such thing online).
Obviously, I have easily managed to log in to your email account (wfeldman@catskill.net).

One week later, I have already installed Trojan virus to Operating Systems of all the devices that you use to access your email.
In fact, it was not really hard at all (since you were following the links from your inbox emails).
All ingenious is simple. =)

This software provides me with access to all the controllers of your devices (e.g., your microphone, video camera and keyboard).
I have downloaded all your information, data, photos, web browsing history to my servers.
I have access to all your messengers, social networks, emails, chat history and contacts list.
My virus continuously refreshes the signatures (it is driver-based), and hence remains invisible for antivirus software.

Likewise, I guess by now you understand why I have stayed undetected until this letter...

While gathering information about you, I have discovered that you are a big fan of adult websites.
You really love visiting porn websites and watching exciting videos, while enduring an enormous amount of pleasure.
Well, I have managed to record a number of your dirty scenes and montaged a few videos, which show the way you masturbate and reach orgasms.

If you have doubts, I can make a few clicks of my mouse and all your videos will be shared to your friends, colleagues and relatives.
I have also no issue at all to make them available for public access.
I guess, you really don't want that to happen, considering the specificity of the videos you like to watch, (you perfectly know what I mean) it will cause a true catastrophe for you.

Let's settle it this way:
You transfer $1650 USD to me (in bitcoin equivalent according to the exchange rate at the moment of funds transfer), and once the transfer is received, I will delete all this dirty stuff right away.
After that we will forget about each other. I also promise to deactivate and delete all the harmful software from your devices. Trust me, I keep my word.

This is a fair deal and the price is quite low, considering that I have been checking out your profile and traffic for some time by now.
In case, if you don't know how to purchase and transfer the bitcoins - you can use any modern search engine.

Here is my bitcoin wallet: 1Mm12Pu5aWrXYAtws4MuhxjXs8QarsVKtD

You have less than 48 hours from the moment you opened this email (precisely 2 days).

Things you need to avoid from doing:
*Do not reply me (I have created this email inside your inbox and generated the return address).
*Do not try to contact police and other security services. In addition, forget about telling this to you friends. If I discover that (as you can see, it is really not so hard, considering that I control all your systems) - your video will be shared to public right away.
*Don't try to find me - it is absolutely pointless. All the cryptocurrency transactions are anonymous.
*Don't try to reinstall the OS on your devices or throw them away. It is pointless as well, since all the videos have already been saved at remote servers.

Things you don't need to worry about:
*That I won't be able to receive your funds transfer.
- Don't worry, I will see it right away, once you complete the transfer, since I continuously track all your activities (my trojan virus has got a remote-control feature, something like TeamViewer).
*That I will share your videos anyway after you complete the funds transfer.
- Trust me, I have no point to continue creating troubles in your life. If I really wanted that, I would do it long time ago!

Everything will be done in a fair manner!

One more thing... Don't get caught in similar kind of situations anymore in future!
My advice - keep changing all your passwords on a frequent basis

Unbelievable, the extent these people will go.

The net has become a slime all paradise. I get bills for jet plane fuel. Phoney invoices that might fool some
like Amazon needs a new credit card you will lose you account. I would say 10 a week. And I think there
algorithms are telling them I am over 70. And other personal information they could mine to make us a target.
We can blame the big techs like google facebook etc etc who have allowed our personal info to be acquired easily.
my approach is to just get rid of message and move on.
I so use a program called sophos as my protection for my computers. Really impressed with it.
Many companies we use have screwed uped and had hackers steal all our personal info. And Google
accumlates all of our searches. Even their filtering offer is lame.
Good luck. T
Our useless government has not thought to step in and put regs on these companies.
Lies and slander are OK. Freedom?

I love it when companies tell us we have to change our password, make it stronger. We’re not the ones getting hacked, they are. That’s how our passwords are compromised. It doesn’t matter if I have a 64 digit password or use 1234 as my password. Not if the site I’m using it on gets all the passwords stolen.
If we don’t do as the corporations tell us to do, (change our password, use 2 factor authentication, etc) they say, “Fine, now if anything happens, it’s all on you. You won’t be covered.” A bank told me this a few years ago.

I know a guy that got this and he thought it was real. Instead of paying the ransom he informed all his friends that they may receive video of him masturbating. If they do, please delete it and forget about it because he's not paying the ransom. I hope he has a piece of tape on his camera now. LOL

So are you saying that simple passwords are never guessed?!?

Who is going to guess it? Are they in your house, opening your toy? Usually the scam works by getting us to give away our id. Getting hacked from an outside source is highly unlikely. They’re like vampires that way- you have to invite them in.
Pros go after the large companies, steal their info, and sell our id’s to thieves. If they can hack the biggies, there is nothing we can do to fend off a pro hacker.
But, obviously only an idiot would use 1234 as a password.
I frequently see when putting in a password, that it has been stolen from one site or another, and to change it. I never do.

Many IDs are email addresses. So if you received any spam, they know your email address.
Possibly harvested from a friend's infected computer, one that has your email, or like andesbill said, from stolen corporate info.
If they have your email, they can have their computer try that with various "common" passwords, like 1234.
Simple passwords are easily found.
There are many ways they can acquire the info.

You know, in the old days, the scam would start as an advertisement in a men's magazine for a large number of pornographic videos for only $29.95. Some schmoe would order the videos. After a month they would get a letter saying there were delays in the production run, and would they prefer to wait or have their money refunded. If they agreed to wait, they would get a similar letter every month - eventually they would ask for a refund. When the refund came, it would be in the form of a check - the name of the originator of the check would be prominently displayed - would be something like "Pornography Fan Club" or "Masturbation League". They honored their promise of refunding the money. For some reason a lot of those checks never got cashed!

Ha! I'd be happy to have someone spread the word that I can still respond appropriately to porn. At my age, it'd be bragging and probably make some of my friends jealous.

"...enduring an enormous amount of pleasure." Odd choice of words. Probably not a native English speaker.

I get these occasionally and they refer to a password I used 15 or 20 years ago. Some hacker bought a very out of date pw list.
