Hey hpucker, do you use an auxiliary software, like Fisheye-Hemi 2 ?
For the night sky time lapses, I don't correct for the curvature and get similar results to the aurora photo posted by bwana. I downloaded the Fisheye Hemi 2 plugin and fooled around with it but didn't delve into it. I can also correct them in Olympus Workspace and although Lightroom doesn't have a lens correction for the Olympus 8mm fisheye, you can use one for another fisheye that they have a profile for. I'll take a few shots later today and run it through the various correction options.
Have you done many shots with people in it?

I will answer you by saying "no." I have, however, experimented and quickly found that for me, using an extreme wide angle lens to photograph people is really not a good idea, at least for me. I did not do distortion correction, but suspect that it would would result in some pretty weird unintended results.
That said, I think that the opportunity here would be to embrace the effects, rather than working to correct them out. Since you seem to have the interest, I'd encourage you to get the lens, experiment, refine, and show us what interesting things you can show us.
For those reading this thread, after much practice I was able to get Fisheye Hemi to work reasonable well. I was able to make a preset. I would say that 80% of what was in the 'middle' was able to be straightened out. Before one might say 'why am I staying with this 8mm lens, I can tell you that I can capture measurably wider images than before.

Have you tried shooting panoramas?
