My aging HP Photosmart D7460 was working well until it reported a Paper Jam where none is to be found. Rebooting by disconnecting from power and restarting doesn't help. Some sensor seems to be in trouble or maybe a program error. Any ideas how to get around this?

That would tend to indicate there is a sensor stuck. There is no repair on consumer level printers that is economical. Time to purchase a new one.

I've had the same experience with an HP. I've taken the back off as if to clear the jam. None being there I re-installed the back and the paper jam message went away.

Are you SURE there isn’t a crumpled piece of paper somewhere between the rollers? Remove every cover you can and inspect carefully again.

I had a similar issue with my last HP printer, after multiple try’s at fixing I picked the printer up and tilted it back and forth and then heard something loose inside. When opening the printer up I found a broken plastic gear piece. Needless to say had to buy a new printer. Good luck with your printer.

The same problem happened two years ago to a company. The company said come and get their FREE HP printer. It was not working any longer. They gave me the printer, software and cables.

I installed the software and and found everything was working fine. I called the company back and said I think their computer had reported the jam up as and error but THEY could not eliminate the error. They should reinstall the software and try it again. The company man came back, picked up the Hp Printer They were thankful and I never hear another word from them,......Larry

See if you can hit a button that will allow you to run a piece of paper through the machine without printing. If you can, it might dislodge a small piece of lint or paper fragment that can't be seen.

I had that same problem with two different HP's. A member of the Geek Squad worked for a couple of hours to clear it, finding absolutely nothing. Sometimes turning it off AND unplugging it would clear it. I finally got tired of the problem and bought a Canon!

Over the years, I have had 4 or 5 HP printers. All failed for one reason or other, none of which made any sense.
About 2004 I realized that there was a common denominator in the problem.
I made point to verify that no printer I ever owned going forward had the HP logo on it.

I had the same problem a few years ago, and solved it satisfactorily by getting rid of the printer, and replacing it with one not made by HP.

I have had some success with similar problems using squirts of compressed air along the paper path. Cleans out a lot of accumulated paper dust. Best wishes in troubleshooting.
