This is almost getting to be a thing.

It happened after 9/11, and it happened during C***d. People moved from the city to the country, either permanently, or they bought/built weekend homes. As they try to make the country more like the city, resentment grows.

A lot of us country folks feel that way; they come out here and try to change us into city folk.

Born and raised in NYC for the first 30 years. Moved to the country, got horses, geese, Border Collie, big vegetable garden. The locals on my road know who I am, but I don't know them. It'll be that way until I die.

You need to know your neighbors; they come in handy sometimes. We country folks are known for knowing our neighbors. You might need a cup of sugar sometime, or a battery jump or some such.

Yupper. Funny how they move to get away from their environment then want to change their new location to make it like what they were getting away from. Having that happen in Texas.

Shortly after a tree wiped out my roof during Hurricane Sandy, I saw half a dozen neighbors walking up the street. They got up on the roof with tarps to keep the rain out. We definitely look out for each other.

When I go to the local stores on weekends, I see license plate surrounds like, "Mercedes of Manhattan," BMW of Manhattan," "Audi of Manhattan." Inside the store, you can tell the city people by what they wear and what they buy.

I'm from the city, too. I was born in Brooklyn, and we moved to Long Island when I was five. I moved up here in 1966.

A few days ago I was working adjacent to a side road with a chainsaw to buck a log too heavy to lift into my utility trailer. The chainsaw got jammed in. I tried to get it out with a Sawzall, and that got jammed too. A pickup truck going up the road stopped and offered to help. He took a chainsaw out of his bed and worked hard to free both saws. He told me he lived at the corner and was the one with cattle. (Longhorns I might add) I thanked him profusely for saving my ass. Are we now going to visit and become pals? Of course not.

They move from places with problems then v**e for politicians and advocate policies just like the ones that created the problems they were trying to get away from.
Then wonder why the locals resent them. Of course they think of and treat those locals as a bunch of unsophisticated hicks who don't appreciate their wisdom of how things should be done.

The only policies this city boy supports are preservation of farmland and funding for rail trails and improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.

Yep they do!!!
Really they try to citify the country!!!
We have a county collector that wants tax property on actual value instead of assessed value & institute zoning, She if fast losing supporters.
I'M a city boy that started trying to get out of the city @ age 17 it took me almost 15 years to get her done.
A few yrs later I I had to go to work in St.Louis, but I found a place 30 miles outside the city.2019 I moved farther out now 70 miles, so far so good.

That is why there are 'China Towns' (and other types) in some cities!

The t***h is that there are "city folks" who want to convert "country property" into cash cows. There are just as many "country folks" who want to convert "country property" into cash cows. Neither group is interested in the human aspect of the environment.

Through the decades, I have seen people who stepped up to help people in need, ignoring which group they may fall into. This was very notable during weather crises that occurred in the regions.

There are many religion groups that pretend to go in to help people in crisis, in order to proselytize. Also there are many political groups that do the same. A NIMBy can be found anywhere.

And then there is a "Thomas J".

The problem is that too many myths abound to the point that reality is lost. People are people. A person in need will be as close as to one's arm length. But myths will get in the way, always. Even in this thread, we can observe them at work.
