At least 3 years ago a friend showed me a rather bad image of a snake resting on a piece of farm equipment. She asked me if I knew what it was. Having been raised on a farm I knew that I had this one solid.
I answered, "Sure, I know." There was some silence. Then she said, "Well, what is it?"
I answered, "It's some kind of John Deere heavy farm tractor. See the grill and those big counterweights and the green?"
She went all fists-on-hips and rolly-eyed on me--the snake doofus, the snake!" I stepped back.
Then said I, "Uhhh, I dunno. Looks like some type of diamond back rattler. I hope the person who took the pic survived."
----------
She asked me to try to make it a better image. The #1 is the result. Looks a bit dirty and dusty the way farm machinery should. The rest are my 'weyrdations' for today.
Fabulous processing exercise. Thanks for sharing it.
Your work on the original gave you a good start. I think No. 2 is the pick of the litter. What did you use to get the pattern, if I may ask
Great shot and good attempt but not quite representative of the 'golden ratio'.
I am not a fan of your results. For me the original is the best one. The results remind me of a scene in a movie where a person on drugs is hallucinating. And the snake takes on a life of it’s own. But the important thing was your friend happy with the results.?

The counterweights do not match the style that were on my 3020, and they were the same as the 4020 (one of the most popular JD tractors made [about 1963-1972]). Another local farm bought a fairly recent JD which used counterweights of that style. The grill style was common to tractors of that era. From the number of weights and the apparent size of the grill I'd put the tractor into the 55-120 Hp range. I had a 2750 (1983-88) that had a weight bracket on the front that looks like it could have accommodated those weights (22 Kg each).
The snake was optional equipment.
Everyone sees something different in a photo.
