Blood and guts sitting ducks

This is before my foot surgery...I came across the Hawk as I was strolling through the park. He caught a Mallard duck and was not the lease bother by people walking by and stopping to see him with his meal. You don't alway get to see this as the bird will usually fly off with it's prey. Not this one, He was at the edge of the parking lot.

I didn't see him catch the unlucky mallard and I am glad I didn't see. They are such beautiful birds with their shining iridescent colors but are sitting ducks in the wide open lake.
Hope you enjoy!

Good shots! If something eats, something else has died. Nature.

Good captures of an every day event in nature. The Hawk has to pursue the type of food it is genetically programmed to eat. Mother Nature is not always pretty.

Large close-ups sharp as they may be are NOT always the best way to display images... really... IMO, a little more context would make this sequence appealing... unless you want to see the close-up of people eating with their mouths open? I understand the urge to show off the clarity, etc... but I don't find these images appealing... and neither would the Mallard... good luck...no disrespect, just my opine on all the big facials being displayed...

Friend,

I have NO issue with NATURE... I was making a statement about depicting NATURE in a more artistic fashion.

My point is MORE CONTEXT would make this image MORE appealing imo... getting the closest sharp image is not always the BEST.
Attached are two NATURE AT WORK images... ONE is more appealing than the other... I personally didn't post either, until now ONLY to make this point.. FACIALS are NOT always appealing and for me, as a Nature lover, I personally PREFER not to post ugly kills or guts and blood... artistically, we disagree on presentations... good luck

Along that line, my wife and I have enjoyed watching the UC Davis peregrine falcon web cam the past couple of years. In those two years the breeding pair has produced nine hatchlings, eight of which have survived as far as fledging and leaving the nest alive. It's fascinating to watch the parent birds bringing all manner of dead sparrows and pigeons to feed their offspring. I recon several hundred small birds give their lives to feed a new generation of peregrines.

Soul Dr ...

I don't have any problems with the Cycle of Life via Nature... MY comments were about how to best artistically capture and share such moments. YOU seem to ignore this criticism and want to revert to an explanation of the necessity of the cycle of life in nature. Birds of prey kill for food, taking overly close images, doesn't appeal to my artistic presentation of Nature.

As photographers, WE make decisions as to what is worthy of capturing and sharing and what does NOT display Nature in the best light... I love taking images of EAGLES, but I don't display the photos of an Adult eagle carrying off young goats to their doom... have seen many such images online. YOU apparently are attracted to and enjoy capturing such images... best you can... I am not at all enthused with these types of images and SO we thankfully travel on different roads. Happy Trails to you... God Bless ...adios

No worries!! I thank you for your views and for advice. I did hesitate about posting a close up, (But it's nature) I wanted to crop because of the lens flare in the photo.. I don't mind friendly criticism. That's what I like about this forum.

You assume to know what I am attracted to and what I like to capture. You have never seen an image posted on UHH by me, like the type we are discussing.
But you know, photography like mother nature is not always pretty. And that is what makes it interesting.
I'm the type of person that likes to see all different sides of things, not just the nice or pretty ones.
Some people like to go through life wearing rose colored glasses, I'm not one of them.
And if everybody traveled the same road, it would be a pretty boring one.

This forum has a wide range of topics...

I only looked at what YOU posted and titled... not sure what conclusions others would make with
Blood & Guts & pics as posted?

I attempted to engage on the artistic merits of the images... not biology 101...

I am happy to go my way swiftly in another direction, but IF we meet have no problems being friendly... am not looking for arguments/fights, just healthy uplifting constructive discussions...

so for me it's CIAO ...
