I don't own any of them. They all came from China and are expensive.

What gave you the idea they all came from China? Even if it was true, so what?

I checked! And of course it doesn't matter to most as nobody checked like me.

That's my opinions about them, expensive Chinese made lenses.
I borrowed the 200-500 for a few days. It is nice. In daylight, I got some good shots with it.
I shoot a lot of lower light and found that my 2.8 primes are better for me. They cost a lot more too.
So, my summary of the 200-500 is that if you can deal with 1/2 to 1/4 of the light (F 5.6 vs 2.8/4) that it is a nice lens. I spend 90% of my time with it at 500mm. AF speed on the 200-500 was slower than the primes, but when I added the 2x TC, the AF speed was close. If I didn't need 2.8, I'd look closer at buying the lens for longer reach.

An excellent lens and a good value. It is always on one of my Nikons. A good deal of the time, it has the TC 1.4 E II on, and works well with that also. It doesn't seem too heavy or awkward in use. It is fairly large. I have heard a lot of good things about the 500, but it is out of my price range. Note: I don't use it in low light.

I have the AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR. It is a very nice lens, very sharp and goes well with the

I do not have either the 300 f/4 or the 500 f/4.
I bought a 200-500 f/5.6 in 2015. It is now one of my most used lenses. I now have a good range of focal lengths: 14-24-70-200-500
When I bought the 200-500 it was because I needed a good 500 and the lens had good reviews. When I got it I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the VR. My older lenses dated from around 2006 and the VR was kind of OK but nothing great. Maybe 1-1.5 stops worth. The 200-500 had a new generation VR which was very effective. I was able to take a photo at 500mm at 1/10 second hand held. Not perfectly sharp but much much much better than the old VR performance.
The price of the lens is reasonable in my opinion. I had been lusting over the 200-400 but never got enough money together all in one place.

Price and point of final assembly are his dislikes, per the OP’s query. Acoarst as a non-owner he is off-topic but surely that should be waived cuz his dislikes prevent him from being an owner.

My apology as I was checking the 500 f/5.6.

I own and sometimes use this lens. It is sharp, but it is heavy. If I think I won't need the zoom I use the 500mm F/5.6 pf. Much easier hand holding.2 - Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR
I love this lens. It is light, sharp, and very easy to hand hold. If I will be doing a lot of walking I take the grip off a D7200 and mount this lens. This lens and body were made for each other. 3 - Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR[/quote]
I used one of these for a while but as I aged, it got heavy. I was using it on a tripod quite a bit. I wound up selling it and getting a 400 F/2.8 which is always on a tripod. I lost some reach but gained the extra stop and nicer backgrounds. All three lenses are very good. There is no one all purpose lens or camera IMHO.
