I must be missing something

Using PSE 2019 last night I was stuck with a fixed-size cross-hair selection cursor Preferences offered no help. No matter what option I selected all I have is the fixed-size cross-hair. A bit difficult to make accurate selection areas. Ideas, anyone?

The only time I get a crosshair in PS is when I have selected the largest brush possible (brush size slider "MASTER DIAMETER" all the way to the right).

Solved. I went back to the old, tried and true method. I rebooted, reopened, and condition normal.

I get a cross hair when I make a brush really , really small. I make the brush bigger & the cross hair goes away & a small circle appears. Glad it worked out.

That's correct. The Caps Lock turns the brush tool from the brush size view (circle) to that of the precision crosshair tool.

Like others said it was your cap locks.
I used Photoshop for years and never had the problem then it happened. Found the answer when Googled the problem but only after fighting the issue for over an hour. It was so strange to me that it didn't come up sooner.

You have just echoed my situation. This was on my new keyboard, which has a light for cap lock. Never happened with my older keyboards, which did not.
