Wow!... If you ever get properly set up I see a photostream similar to Tom Shahan's coming... that guy I am sure has made money because of his flickr stream...
You Both have almost the same set-up. He's got his flash with a big home made diffuser right at the end of the lens. I was checking your equipment out and like the ball swivel rig to adjust your flash. Only problem I see is it would limit getting in close for some shots out in the field. Studio, no problem. Part of my success is my ability to angle around and under objects to shoot the subject. But with any set-up you have limits and learn how to work around them. I've learned how to use a pop up flash, only because I Had no other Choice. I'm just going to Hate the Down Time learning a new flash, it's limits and how to work around them. But if I get to the next level then it's worth it.

OK OK
I actually liked seeing these 'jumping spider' photos regardless of my thumping heart.
Question though: What happens when one jumps AT YOU while you're working so hard to impress us?

The last two days I've been photographing these guys on a boardwalk out over the water. I had several of these guys chase me backwards, charging the lens. Moving so fast I couldn't get the shot. All of my muscles are tight from being on edge. Not from the spiders, just the thought of dropping or falling with all my equipment into the lake!

These are great. I don't like spiders. Not even a little tiny bit, they have too many legs and too many eyes and they are creepy with the walking on the ceiling and such.
Your pictures are fantastic! Well done, but I still don't like spiders. *shudder*

Excellent shots.
One question, how large are these spiders? Are these the small jumpers that are around the size of #2 pencil eraser?

Photos 3 & 4 about the size of a pencil eraser. The other 3 spiders are a little bigger. If you check my back post I show some of these guys eating mosquitos/midge, which are larger than the spider

I hit the mother load a few days ago when I visited a local lake with a boardwalk and docks out over the water. You have to look under the handrails and around the post, especially where two or more boards come together. Also pay special attention to areas that have Night Lights on. I tend to find the more mature guys in the key areas/best hunting grounds. Mid morning seems to be the best time so far. Any wooden structure and around your house windows and roof line also good areas.

Here's one eating a mosquito/midge. As you can see the midge is as larger as the spider.
