Just an old apple press by our apple tree. I like how the texture of the wood works in HDR. I used 3 bracketed shots, ran through Photomatix and then PSE

C & C welcome.

surprising, i would of thought the wood would of been grey color from ageing.
You did a nice job on the HDR enhancement.

Thank you, :-) You know the wood does have a grayish cast when the sun isn't on it. I guess the HDR brought out the color too.

Every year the town in Wisconsin i lived in, had an Oktoberfest and would press apples brought in from the trees on the island.
We'd sell fresh cider, pressed with the wooden presses as your picture shows and sell Donuts and Taffy apples. I thought if I recall, they would let you press your own apples if you brought them in, at that time.
The wood on ours had turned grey with age and the elements. Thus your photo brought back some nice memories for me.

We also have an Oktoberfest here every year (although it's in September  I can't figure that one out except for the fear of bad weather.) We also have several apple orchards that let you come and pick, but I don't know if they allow you to press, I know they sell fresh cider. Our local orchards grow Fugi apples which are really good.

Oh they are, a little sweet and tart but crisp like a Granny Smith.

Thank you I make a duplicate and use Topaz Adjust to grunge the Apple press and then a layer mask to just bring out the texture of the grunge.

Hey! A really fine rendition in the hdr. Lots of color, contrast, and sharpness...and the framing is the topper!

Of all the pics you have posted this is by far my favourite. Lovely use of leading lines, the vertical screw of the press and the curve of the apple tree trunk lead your eyes straight to the point of focus, the bright apple at the bottom. The bright but not overly bright bunch on the middle right add a great sense of depth and the light gives that wonderful feeling of late Summer ripeness. The red that you have brought out in the cider press and the reds of the apples tie the whole pic together. As an HDR you have brought out some lovely grain in the cider press and given the screw some great details. A really really good pic but as usual I do have a couple of suggestions. Firstly I like the way you have concentrated all of the light at the front and middle right, that's where you want the eye to wander. But I think the brightness of the house or whatever it is behind the handle and the very bright apple just above the handle are a distraction. I would suggest that you back off the brightness for these just a tad. Composition-wise, drawing the eye to the apple at the bottom left is wonderful but I think its just a tad blown. As an artistic effect it may work that its blown but I wonder if you just pulled it back a bit to recover a little detail whether it move an already lovely pic to a 'print-frame and hang' standard. Yes I know I am a picky perfectionist and I probably drive people mad but with work of this quality I think its important to work on the fine details, don't be content with 90% go for it all.

BTW its so hard to make dappled light through trees work in HDR but you have. Well done.

Peter
