Has anyone identified this as Chicorium sp. yet? The root can be used as a coffee substitute and was used to energize the Confederates during the Civil War. This whole thread needs to be canceled or moved to the Attic.

Now THAT is a neat photograph. I love the lighting that shows off the petals as well as the pistil and stamens standing proud.

May I ask why the thread should be canceled or moved?
You are right it is Chicory, I wasn't sure, because I have never seen a chicory plant this tall, 4.5 ft
And I do know of chicory being used as a coffee substitute, I even tried some many years ago, just plain nasty!!!
