Olympus 100-400 lens loose mount issue

I recently purchased this lens for my EM1 iii and have noticed what I consider to be significant slop in the lens to camera interface. There seems to be no danger of becoming disconnected nor do I see any effect on IS. I have raised the issue with Olympus and have been told that this is normal and will not affect performance or weather sealing. I can accept that however I find the movement very distracting when operating the zoom ring.
So my question to those of you that have this lens is have you seen the same issue with your copy? If there is a good chance that returning it for another copy would result in a better outcome I will do so.
For what it's worth I have checked other lenses with the body and found that some movement is present with most of them but much less noticeable, the issue could be the mass of the lens vs the mass of the camera. My 40-150 pro has some movement but not nearly as much.

My copy of this lens is solidly attached to the body without any of the problems you describe. If I addd the 1.4 extender, the attachment is rigid. Sounds like you might have gotten a bad copy. Can you try this lens on another Olympus body to see if the problem is with the lens only?

pft....send it back and tell them to fix it...as hpucker said, make double sure it is not your camera...then send it back to them.

same loose connection with em1 II body itself and also with 1.4 converter. Outside return period at BH so stuck with it but not pleased. I wonder if this poor quality control is the result of the ownership change

I don’t have this lens but my wife’s Oly 12-100 has this more than normal slight slack when used on her G9. It seems to be slightly more than any of our P/L lenses on either of our G9s no matter the weight or size even including a 50-200 with a TC-1.4 which is about 28 ozs combined. I checked my Nikons for this and sure enough almost all have some slight slack in the connections. Strange thing is only the Oly 12-100 seems to be noticeable under normal operation. I’m interested in following the other remarks to your question. Good luck.

Have a 12-40mm on my mkII and have zero play; the same with 75-300mm. I would return it!

I have the Oly 12-100 and always noticed a bit of play in it. I thought it was something I had done to it. Not terrible, just a tiny bit of play. I have an OMD-EM1 mkii. It is several years old, before they we bought out. Yours sounds worse than this.
