Update needed on past topic - I will be taking a five day trip to Cape Cod on July 9th, mainly to shoot hydrangeas and seaside venues. I would love to find one of the iconic lobster shacks covered with buoys. Any site locations would be much appreciated.

You don’t mention wildlife, but I’ll put in a plug for Mass Audubon’s Wildlife Sanctuary at Wellfleet. Last week on a birding excursion we counted 45 species! It is on the bay side, and offers nice vistas of salt marshes and the bay beaches as well.

July will be crowded everywhere but you should visit Provincetown. There are several dune hikes with beautiful views. The town is really nice with well maintained classic New England style homes and businesses. Also tons of art shops.

Cape Cod is not really lobster land. You’ll have better luck in Downeast Maine, which is defined as east of Bar Harbor.

Many of the stores and homes are covered with buoys. One only has to look. A classic Lobster Shack has been in Provincetown for many years. The Lobster Pot. Get the Lobster Bisque. YUM.

There are fabulous bike trails through the dunes between Herring Cove beach and Race Point (the very tip of the cape). Provincetown is a must!

This is the Sesuit Harbor Cafe on the Bay on Dennis. You’ll stand on line to order and get a number then sit at a picnic table outside and your food will come to you. It’s BYO if you want a glass of wine or a cold beer with your lobster, shrimp, etc.. Like any place on The Cape in July it’s crowded so be prepared to wait. A lot of places are also having trouble getting staff this year so that may contribute to the wait.

I get the Boston Globe online, and there have been several articles about how they expect large crowds and higher prices on the Cape, so be prepared.

I live in Chatham,
Don't know about the shacks, but they used to be along Oyster River, accessed from Barn Hill Road in W. Chatham.
One of the few remaining ones was used in the movie "The Golden Boys" filmed here in town.
You may want to check out Stage Harbor, though they have just rebuilt "The Trap Dock" there: it was probably the last, old, funky place in town. It was used in the "night" shoot for the Disney Pendleton movie, Their Finest Hours.
Then, there is the Chatham fish pier, which they just rebuilt, but it has the boats.
My sister, an artist, would probably have more information on where the shacks may be, if you wish to send me an E-mail address or phone number I'll put you in touch.
C.L. Fornari, www.gardenlady.com has a Saturday morning show on WXTK, 91.5, local talk radio and hosts a "hydrangea walk" encompassing local homes on the Cape. She would certainly know what is out there.

Dear Dave,

As usual the Hedgehog people always have great advice,take a general consensus of all their responses and you'll never go wrong! Cape Cod extends 65 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean and is between 1 and 20 miles wide with over 400 miles of shoreline so there is enough to see and do,you'll never get bored ! We love the Cape and have been here now more than 50 years,a great place to live and grow.
Please have a safe trip,take some nice pictures and have a wonderful trip.

Just thought of this and it may or may not impact your trip: the exit numbers on Route 6, the highway that runs the length of The Cape have recently changed and anything you may be looking at for directions may not have caught up with the changes. The old exits were basically single digits from 1 to 10 but the new numbers are all in the 60s to conform to the mileage. So if you see the new numbers don’t panic, you’re probably not lost.

You can try the Sesuit Harbor Cafe (between Dennis and Brewster) but the key to finding what you look for is probably going to be in various harbor mouths - but so many have been built up
