Good morning. Yes, I used it often with my 100mm macro. It had two advantages in my experience. First, and most obvious, it provided much needed fill light on macro subjects. You can decide the flash strength just like a Canon flash. Second, because it is essentially a Canon flash, it helps freeze any camera movement during the shutter release for sharper images.

My understanding is that this is a manual flash, not brightness controlled by the camera, I.e. not e-ttl. Could you verify?

Thanks, but I think I found what I was looking for. My understanding is that the flash brightness is manually controlled and does not have automatic TTL support except for synchronization. Still a good price but not what I was looking for.
