What is mbh? Do you mean B&H? $300 for the original 7D might be a reasonable price if it's in very good condition. I assume that the price is for the body only, no lenses. You need to know the shutter count. This old camera was released in September of 2009. It's a sports and wildlife oriented camera with a relatively high frame rate for those activities. Therefore the shutter count could be very high. If it has a very high shutter count the shutter could be be on its last legs and replacing it can be fairly expensive for this older used camera. I also assume you mean Canon 7D and not the newer Canon 7D Mark II.

What do you have now? Are you planning this purchase as a replacement for your primary camera or as a backup camera? Do you have lenses to use with this body?

The original 7D was a very fine camera in its day, and we'll continue to take the same excellent pictures It took back then. However it's low light performance is limited to an ISO at about 800. Higher than that and you start to see significant noise.

Yes $300 is a great price for this camera, even if the body / sensor design rather dated. I haven't purchased from MPB.com, but I understand they provide a shutter count. For the EOS 7D rated to 150,000 shutter count, I'd like the count on that body to be less than 75,000, but I'd also recognize the lowish $300 price may reflect a high count. There's nothing to say the camera just stops at 150,000. The shutter doesn't just konk out at some specified number, in fact, the shutter may never fail. But, that count does give an indication of how much overall the camera has been used.

The EOS 7D is 'ISO challenged', but certainly quite usable even to ISO-3200. My own personal limit for this model was ISO-3200, preferring to stay below ISO-2000. Ideally, you can throw fast lenses and / or IS-enabled lenses to hold the shutter as slow as possible as a method to hold the ISO low. Here's a full-sized image to show ISO-3200 in action, with just modest LR processing of the RAW file. If you open and click to the 1:1 pixel details, you'll see some of the noise characteristics of this model. Captured at 1/50sec at f/4, ISO-3200 with an EF 24-105mm f/4L USM at 105mm.

I shot this image recently with a used 7D that I was using along with a 6DII at a wedding. The 7D is dated but is capable of great images. I paid about $250 for mine used here in Seattle off Craigslist. It is my backup-backup as I now have a Canon mirrorless as well.

Good condition absolutely. That is on the low side.

Absolutely agree. The 7D is built like a tank and can produce excellent results at reasonable ISOs - i preferred to stay below ISO 1600, but could go to 3200 if necessary. When I look back at my older images taken with my 7D, I’m always surprised how good they were.

I still use the 7D. All the above are right. I am constantly impressed with pic quality and versatility of it. I also have way to many lenses, but that’s ok too. Melds has shoes, Ed has cameras. (I have many) but 7D is my favorite.

I have two one converted to IR the other carries my Sigma 15-600 C Excellent camera, great images, price OK, but also recommend shutter flaps do not exceed 70000 or so. Good luck.

Good idea - I might pick up one for conversion to IR. Who did your conversion and what portion of the IR spectrum?

Im assuming you mean MPB. They have excellent condition 7D cameras for $299 with less than 30,000 actuations I sold my excellent condition 7D locally for $325 to a private party. 27,000 actuations. 12 months ago. Id say its a good price if thats what you want. They offer a 180 day guarantee I think. I sold my my 7D to step up to a 7D MKII which has better high ISO performance. MPB has the 7D MKII in excellent condition for $899

My 7d was bought 8 years ago. Still use it. Works as well as it did when new. As above, be sure to check shutter count. I would use 30,000 as a red line. If using it as a back up, you can't do better if it's in excellent condition. It was at it's time Canon's flagship crop sensor camera.

The best by far APSC available at the time of introduction and still up there in a few select cameras with weather sealing as well.
Mine has been rained on with L lenses and still working all these years later perfectly.

I love my heavy, old 7D. 300 bucks sounds reasonable.

I had a guy on Ebay do it. Fast service, good price, all in all I am well satisfied.
