Both prints will look perfect from their standard viewing distances of 1.0 to 1.5 times the diagonal dimension of each print. I know that’s counter-intuitive, but it’s true.

Now if you walk up and pixel-peep from 12”, that all falls apart.

So what ? Obviously, pixel peeping calls for finer gear. But realworldwise, again “so what” ? Who cares? Well actually, it’s plain enough hereabouts who does care, and they just don’t qualify realworldwise. Geekworldwise, there they rule.

All??? Or just those not into photography.............

BIG DIFFERENCE in your grouping of cell phone users.
Saying "Cell phone users often could care less" does not [to me] imply that All cell phone users could care less, but I guess the wording could be confusing.

To go further, many (not all) cell phone pics are meant for things far removed from photo quality. In fact, some cell phone "photographers" will send their "works of art" via things like Snap Chat, were the photo's are immediately sent to bit heaven after viewing by the recipient.

Much "photography" has taken on a whole new form/purpose today with the advent of cell phone camera's, where billions of people are taking billions of photo's every day, just to convey to their friends where and what they are doing/drinking/eating/wearing/dating/etc etc. Content is the main focal point, quality is not much of an issue.

The good news is with a little skill and effort, some high quality pics can be taken with most any modern cell phone.

Saying "Cell phone users often could care les... (show quote)

Yup, if one doesn't specify a subset, the whole group is included: cell phone users; Buick users; bikers; laptop users; ....
If any differentiation is not let out of the speakers mind (he know what he's talking about), how would we know if it means all, some, half, new users, ...?

So with 12mp camera, current iPhones should be able to make enlargements up to a size that the Nikon D300 could ~10 years ago, unless there's some other new sharpening technology involved...and assuming that the much tinier lenses are of equal resolving quality. Are they? Does DXO do a test comparison like this?

Wonder if it's a typo, saw 92Mp for an S-20 phone.
