All four are very dramatic and well done.
I particularly like the second image.... probably because the bird appears to be looking directly at you. For my tastes, the backgrounds seem a little strong in all the images. Just my personal preference, I'd try for a little more natural look and that second image comes the closest. It still has some blue sky in the upper area as well as the shadows and direction of light seeming fairly appropriate. Those are more reasons it's my favorite of the bunch.

I appreciate your detailed and thoughtful comment amfoto, thank you. My photo goals have almost always been straight documentary and this new processing ground for me and your feedback is helpful. I think direction of light is a key challenge with sky and background substitutions.
