I had the chance to sit on the first row center when I saw him in 1976. He was absolutely amazing. Truly one of a kind. His phrasing can never be duplicated. A style which identified him.

Yes and "Bird" was one of the one of the most gifted!!

One of the few things I had from my father was an old 75 of Charlie Parker. I loaned it to a jazz aficionado friend and... he broke it.
On a happier note, thanks for posting this. Puts me into a reverie.

That would be an old "78", not 75. Sorry to hear that. Irreplaceable!!

No one matches his creativity. He's the originator, along with Monk, Christian, Diz and a few others, of bebop/modern jazz.
