Going back to what I did with a lot of my photos in the darkroom. I still think there is some work to do on the HC. First is the original, second the one I am playing with.

I find the unresolved sky areas --the 'bright' places in the spaces between the metalworks-- sort of disconcerting. As well, while 'HC'-ish enough (I suppose), the image (for me) doesn't much come across as a posterization.

Did darkroom posterizations back in the day. These were done using three or four (or more) Kodalith separations of an image at varying exposures to arrive at a set of negs that could be successively exposed, each in perfect (or as near to perfect as could be done what with the need to remove one neg and replace it with the next, etc.) register, to arrive at an end result of an image that had clear separations between blacks, shades of gray, and white (or near white, depending on the image). Digitally, much the same could be done now, but a whole lot easier what with layers and such. And I don't think you've quite done that.

I think you are quite right this is a work in progress and I appreciate your input. My plan is to print this for our powder room which is done in shades of grey. I left the white areas in the iron work as they were to add interest to the subject. That part I'm not 100% on however.
