Well, I have been in an "expand my horizons" mode with my subject matter recently. After enduring a lot of really marginal (or worse!) shots and an unprecedented "hands-on" tutorial experience with my camera settings, I have been able to capture an image or two of subjects I have rarely photographed before. This is one of them.
I used a flash (another rare event for me!) to establish the background, and I think it just might have worked. Any thoughts as to how I might improve, not only this image but this type of photography in general (still-life, flowers, etc) would, as always, be much appreciated. Thanks, and enjoy in Download!
Nicely done. I like the dark background.
Looks good, exposure, detail, composition. For some reason I'd find it more attractive if there was a bit more distance between the bottom petal and the edge of the frame. Who knows, maybe it is a good thing, there is just a little tension there for me, not something I usually associate with flowers.
Nice. The black background is nice.
Very pretty-beautiful in fact! The flash seems to have worked out really well! I agree that a touch more space at the bottom would be nice. You're probably like me. I focus my attention on one part of a flower and don't always check for the "feet". I have that issue with birds, too.
Well done. Off camera flash for different lighting may work.

I think you and quixdraw are right - I wanted a bit more space at the bottom, but that's not what came out of the camera! **sigh**
Beautifully done, Tommy. Love the black background and all of the detail captured in the bloom.
Excellent result, Tommy! What kind of flash/setting did you use? Was the flower outside?

Well done Tommy. The space at the bottom has been commented on and explained. It is a shot to be proud of
Very nice Tommy. I really like the dark background.
