Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to see pigmy seahorses in several locations in the Pacific. But I'd never seen a regular-sized seahorse, except at aquariums. This past July in Bonaire I finally got to see some. Here are some of my shots of these fascinating creatures.
Nice shots. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoying the images!
Judging from the looks of the light source, you are in fairly shallow water?
How deep before you loose color?
Have a friend that dives there.

Thanks! Most of them were taken at depths of about 40 feet, give or take.

I should have mentioned that all shots were taken with a Nilon D200 and 2 Inon strobes.

By the way, it looks to me that the gray seahorse in shot #2 may be a mlae carrying eggs. Opinions?

You could be correct, the male carries the young in his pouch after the female inserts her Ovipositor and deposits the eggs. I have raised many young Seahorses. NYC actually has a breeding area for Hippocampus Erectus (Common Atlantic Seahorse). They range in size from as adults from 2 inches all the way up to 9. I used to run the NYC Seahorse Breast Cancer Research Dive. Had people from all over come to see the Seahorses.

I love seahorses also. Thanks for the nice shots.
Thxs Sarge69 for turning me on to this forum. My passion is underwater photography and learning from other divers. The three seahorses were shot under the pier in Frederiksted, St. Croix

Critter Hunter,
I love that pier, have plenty of time there, also St Thomas over by the Aquarium, and St John all around the island. Stopped diving after 9-11 I had trained 23 of the FDNY Rescue and Squad members who died at the World Trade Center. I could not even look at my gear without starting to cry, they were some of the finest men I ever met.

I'm glad to hear that about the American Virgin islands. I only went to St. Thomas and didn't like it. (guess I didn't give it a fair chance) I did hear about St. John but didn't have time to go there and wanted to.
I wondered, George, why you quit diving. I'm so sorry to hear that. I wouldn't have guessed and can't say I know what you went through. I hope you're doing well now from past medical problems.
I've dived all three USVI, St. Croix is by far the best. The only dive shop in St. John used to come over to St. Thomas for their dive sites, which were not much unless you are on a cruise and stop for a couple dives.

Critter-Hunter,
There is more than one dive shop on St. John, the one near the pier is the easiest to get to and Bob the owner was a friend. There are excellent dive sites on all of the islands, the problem is that some of them can not be dived by resort or new divers. I have had to rescue far too many divers that in my estimation should have never been given a C card.
