Japanese Cameras.

Short answer! It does but I don't wanna talk about that. I just pointed out that most of the camera manufacturers are Japanese, few of them are made in Japan.
That most of the camera manufacturers are Japanese companies simply isn't true. I'm not even sure if there ever was a time it was true. Perhaps briefly in the 1970's.

Does it really matter where the cameras are made? Are Japanese fingers more agile and capable of precision work than fingers in India, China, Europe or elsewhere around the world? Is there something uniquely special about the climate of Japan that makes for better product? I think not. What is important is how well the workers are trained, and also that the company has control over the quality of workmanship and materials.
I heard a story comparing a Japanese worker with his counterparts elsewhere in the world.
When the bell rings to signal the end of a workshift the other workers stop wh**ever they’re doing even if it’s just quarter turning a screw! The Japanese meanwhile will finish the tightening and check the torque past the hour of his time.
So I’d like to add attitude to your ‘agility and precision of their hands.’

And it is reflected in the quality of their work on every Japanese product I own. When I look inside a camera, stereo amp or automobile at the quality of the workmanship and materials, all are top notch.

My only complaint with Japanese companies is from my experience, they tend to favor features over simplicity of design of the human interface, but that’s a personal opinion and preference.
I agree 100% with this. Too many products come out with tons of features that only 1% of the users want. The other 99% just want something that works, is reliable, easy to use (especially as you get older) but most importantly are cheap and easy to fix. You won't catch me buying a modern car full of gadgets where each gadget requires replacing the next higher assembly at a huge cost. But quite happy to do so if the gadget comes with a 10 year warranty. I h**e it when the original buyer is happy to pass on all the potential problems to the next user. Happens with houses, cars, cameras, anything with a high tech content.

It seems for sometimes that the Japanese make most of the cameras on the market but in reality about only Canon cameras are made by the Japanese now.
Not so, the f**g ship for Nikon and many upscale Nikon lenses are made in Japan. Also many upscale Sony lenses are also made in Japan.
And let us not forget that even if the product is not made in Japan it doesn't mean it is not manufactured to Japanese standards.

Currently the only Nikon camera is made in Japan is the D6 but they plan to move it production to Thailand by end of year.
Currently Sony A1 and A9ii are made in Thailand also.

Sorry I couldn't resist... (they filmed part of the movie in Roanoke when I was living there)

Most photographers with knowledge of photography know that the image is generated through the lens, without a quality lens, there can be no quality image.
So, the real value in photography is the quality of the lens, not the box that records it.
And Japan makes the best lenses.
So the real story of your post "Japanese Cameras" can be summed up by saying Canon still makes there BOXES in Japan, so what, the real issue is photography is the lens.
And the best lenses are made in Japan by Canon, Sony, Nikon and many others.
Oh, I forgot, the Nikon 70-200 2.8 FL lens is proudly made in Japan. I am sure I will think of some more after my morning coffee.
Nice post by the way, I have enjoyed it very much. Thanks for posting. Billnikon over and out.

So what? I am talking about cameras and not lenses. Didn't say that any thing is useful or not.
