This is my latest try at imaging M101. In this version I added in just over 3 hours of frames taken with a Narrow band hydrogen alpha filter, stretched the image a bit further and did some color calibration compared to my first try. This brings the total integration time for this image to 12 hours (includes luminance, red, green, blue and HA, frames). The HA images where added to the red channel since HA is a very deep red at 656.28 nanometers.
This galaxy it larger than the Milky Way (~170 thousand light years across vs 100 thousand light years across for the Milky Way) and contains ~1 trillion stars. All questions comments and suggestion are welcome.
For more info see my first try of this image with out HA included at

Hi PixelStan77
Thanks for checking out my newest image of M101 and for the comment.
Amazing. Absolutely beyond my skill set.

Hi captivecookie
Thanks for viewing my lasted image of M101 and for the comment. Now that I'm retired I needed a way to keep busy and have been working on several aspects of my photography skill set (Astrophotography being the most challenging of those new skills).

Hi SonnyE
Thanks for viewing the my latest version of M101 and for the comment. Indeed it seems that a lot of galaxies have bright knots of Hydrogen Alpha in them and the Narrow Band HA really brings it out. You can see the knots in the pervious version by they tend to be aqua in color probably being from Hydrogen Beta lines which gets through the Blue and and somewhat through the Green filters at a wavelength of 486 nanometers.
