Kids leaving this morning after a great visit. All the dogs even (sort of) got along. My Wife did a rare turn, and she is a good cook, bacon wrapped dates with water chestnut filling. I also had the services of my Son as sous chef so the asparagus was cooked perfectly and no burned edges on the garlic bread. With outside temps at 103° my old grill reached 500° for the first time in ages. Tuna steaks with an excellent marinade I found several years ago, available on request.

Family and food is always a great combination for a good time. Your narrative and your images tell a great story. Well done. Do you use your D3/24-85 combo for your food photography?

Thank you! I have used that same combination for all or nearly all the food photos I've posted.

Your work has always been good but the D3 seems to add to the richness of your colors. You got me with your glazed meatloaf wrapped in bacon and your wife just got me with her bacon wrapped dates. My compliments to both of you.

Thanks very much, I feel the same way about the color rendition of the D3. If I were into "testing" I'd take the time to swap the lens around to a couple of my newer Nikons, but no real metric just subjective judgment. As regards the cooking, thank you! I enjoy it more than she generally does, but when she does cook, she is more patient than I.

Beautiful presentations and photos, QD. I’ve had the bacon/date/water chestnut appetizer a couple of times ages ago and I still remember what a fabulous combination of textures and flavors. You’ve motivated me to buy the ingredients.

Thank you! When you place the toothpicks, remember you are going to want to turn appetizer at the halfway point.

Thanks very much! As to the dogs, 2 old style older labs, 2 Rhodesians, and a young Lab who identifies as LabRhodesian. The latter three delight in endless games of Bite where no blood is shed. Exiting!

If the company was as good as this food looks, you had a great dinner. Beautifully photographed.
