My brother and I grew up on the Oregon coast. We had ample opportunities to harvest a meal or two from the beaches and rocky outcrops around the area. Razor clams were always high on the list for clamming for us. We used to just dig them with our hands as the grownups used Clam Shoves and Clam Guns. After three or four razors, our hands would be bleeding from the sand grinding the skin (no, not from the Razors! We were careful about that!!).
~ Now we just buy them when we can find them. We prefer the Washington State Beach razors to others.

Yes, these clams need to be tenderized!! This batch was the first time that I FORGOT to do that!! Realized it while I was frying.... A bit chewie, but still delicious!

Interesting narrative and excellent images. Brings back nice memories. I grew up in a small town on the coast of New England. My father and I dug for clams to steam and fry and always got some razor clams in the mix. My mother steamed the razors, shucked them and mixed with olive oil, parsley and garlic. Simple but good. Yours look delicious.

Good pics ad narrative. I love the looks of these because I love seafood and I love fried food!

Your post made me think, though, of the one seafood I've run across that I probably wouldn't order again - geoduck....

Thank you, srt101fan!

I had Geoduck once in a restaurant as a teenager - I remember liking it. Not sure how it was prepared. I think I'll ask around my local coastal area here and see what I can come up with! I'll give it a go if found!!

There is a restaurant in Seattle that specializes in geoduck. Can’t recall name or location but think it was near a Starbuck’s roasting facility.

You bring back many memories of my younger days on Long Island sound. Lots of work for the harvest but so worth it. Many Asian markets carry them at different times so I still get to enjoy them have not harvested them since the sixties. We cut them up and mixed them with garlic olive oil, parsley, bread crumb, a little tomato sauce to keep moist, salt pepper and cayenne under the broiler 15 minutes oh boy

Thanks
Joe

Very interesting narrative. I had razor clams a few years back, very tasty. Great photos

I love whole fried clams, one of my favorite foods. Problem is that I can’t find them anywhere.

Oh man, that's tough - I love my seafood!

Is this place anywhere close to you? https://www.yorkfishandoysterco.com/seafood

Or, call them - maybe they will know of something closer! Best of luck on your hunt, Bluefish!!

Think you have Red Lobster in PA. My Mom was raised in New England and thought they were pretty good.

Good photos, looks tasty! I like fried Clams, but it is a little like Russian Roulette for me, every so often, regardless of the quality of the restaurant or freshness & quality of the clams, they just make me miserably sick. Haven't taken a chance in a good few years.

Ouch!! I know the feeling.... I love shucking fresh oysters, adding a bit of (whatever you like with raw oysters!) and down the hatch! Love that flavor. Russian roulette for sure! Two years ago I lost the round - badly sick for two days.
Now, only Fried Oysters for me!

I can eat sushi, sashimi, sea urchins, but not raw clams or oysters. Here is a little Insurance you might like! https://www.seafood-harvest.com/index.php/2021/03/05/oysters-hot-sauce-and-murder-rip-bacteria/
