At their website at nikonusa dot com Nikon has announced two new macro lenses for their Z mirrorless cameras:

1. Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S lens 1:1 macro reproduction $1000

2. Nikkor Z MC 50mm f/2.8 lens 1:1 macro reproduction $650

Both lenses are claimed to have edge to edge sharpness and the 50mm accepts the ES-2 slide/film copier adapter for use with full frame Z cameras. The VR with 4.5 stops of compensation on the 105mm will probably come in handy for hand held shots.

It's good to know Nikon is keeping up with their new Z lenses. A great camera isn't much good without great lenses.

A 105mm f/2.8 micro is a workhorse for sure....
I'm still shooting my AF 105mm f/2.8D with epic results on both FX & DX.

VR for micro? I have to smile... Guess whatever sells...
Wishing Nikon much success moving forward...

I was also a skeptic, until I rented a Canon 100 f/2.8 Macro. They claim 2 stops reduction at 1:1 - I think it’s better than that. If the Z macro lens offers any vibration reduction at all in the close-up/macro range, it will be better than anything they’ve had to date. The technology is certainly there.

I wouldn't be so quick to laugh it off either. I used to do some hand-held macro shooting with film using a flash as my quasi-VR and it certainly helped.

I never understood the point of a short focal length macro lens. A 50mm lens at 1:1 requires a distance from subject of almost nothing. What use is that?

I have to question that as well. I’m glad someone else does:)

A 105mm Z mount macro is tempting, but at $1000 I’ll keep making do with my Tamron 90mm macro and the FTZ adapter. I’m saving my pennies for the 200-600mm release.

Ooooooo... 200-600. I wonder how heavy that guy will be.

I'm a little surprised they came out with macro lenses when they don't go beyond 200mm for now. I find the lack of reach pretty confining. When they come out with a 200-600 I'm sure that will be a very popular lens.

Many use the 105mm f2.8 for purposes other than macro. The lens manual even says that VR and AF may not be appropriate to use at very close reproduction ratios.

I have a Nikon Z6 and I am hoping to be first in line to get a 105mm S mount macro. I have an assortment of Nikon lenses from past camera ventures however they are all "D" type so they will not autofocus on the Z series cameras.

I prefer that macro lenses are recessed like my AI 55 f2.8 macro. Don't like to always be sticking on a lens shade.
