Hobo dinner or tin foil dinner:
These are individually made.  It is a fun project for a small family gathering.  You can make them any size you want but if you have small children is it best to make them for two or more in a packet because if they are too small, they will burn. We did this for 9 people and they were so good not even a morsel was left, even the picky eaters ate all they had made.  Maybe that is the key?  What you will need are:  a sheet of tin foil, one for each person, afire pit that has a fire in it burned down to coals and enough room for all of the packets, carrots, potatoes, onions, butter and a hamburger patty.  Carrots peeled and sliced Raw potatoes peeled and sliced to ¼ inch thick.  Onions sliced into ¼ inch strings. Cut ¼ inch thick and then cut again to make slices. Salt and pepper2 pats of butter Hamburger patty for topping.
Method:  Layout the tin foil and then put the vegetables on in layers.  First the carrots because they require more heat to cook and being first they might even burn a little but some people like burnt carrots.  Then layer the potatoes, followed by the onions.  Now salt and pepper these first few layers.  Then add the two pats of butter on top.  Then on top of that put the hamburger patty.  So, when it cooks the juices will drop down and flavor everything below.  Salt and pepper the hamburger. Now fold the tin foil up from both sides, creasing the two sides together sealing it from the ashes.  Be sure and slice a hole in the tin foil to allow the steam to escape.  Now place them on the ashes to cook for 30 minutes. That is the hard part for the kids. These will be extremely hot so use tongs to extract from the fire.  Put on plates and let them eat directly out of the tin foil.
