I hope you had a great time at the Powwow.

The Powwow dances come from cultures all over and have blended and spread over the decades. The Jingle Dance comes from the Ojibway.

I once had a student teacher who was Apache (Mom and Dad from two different sub-groups.) and had been dancing at Powwows since she was a little girl. She did Jingle, Fancy/Shawl Dance and Apache traditional women's dance. She brought in some of her costumes and some video to show to the students in my classes and some of the rooms nearby. She was wearing the Jingle Dress and the students (Mexican-American and other Hispanics in a high school in East Los Angeles) mostly found it fascinating. Especially those who were in the Folklorico Dance groups at the school.

I always have a great time at a Powwow!
I was driving through a small town in Montana and stopped to see what the antique shops had. I also went into a pawn shop. There were a couple of fancy dresses and bags of jingles. The jingles were $10.00 a bag. Now that Copanhagen is using plastic for its lids, I am curious as to what will be used!
I am fascinated with all of the performers, my favorite is whatever is before me!
Many years ago, mid 1980's I saw my first hoop dance. I am still in awe from it!
Thank you for the story of the girl!!

I and my family are of the Baha'i Faith, and a fair number of American Indians of different tribes have become Baha'i. One being Kevin Locke of the Lakota who has several albums playing the Native American Style wooden flute and is famous as a Hoop Dancer. I have briefly met Kevin at a few Baha'i events and a friends' house when he was staying with them during a visit to Los Angeles.
