Reno vs Bishop Manogue (PBR Nevada State Championship Round 2)
May 29, 2021 22:17:30   #
Jules Karney Loc: Las Vegas, Nevada

Now sports fans this is a first for me and Maxpreps. The Ball Park here in Las Vegas would not let me in. They said they already hired a company to shoot the semi-final game today.
The enclosed shots are from a high school for Round 2 of the tournament. I shot at the Ball Park a couple of years ago when the tournament was held through NIAA and never a problem. Oh well, I will get them next year.

I am still shaking my head. Those ......................This was and is my last game shot for this season. More games in the 3rd week in August.

Be safe and be well.
Jules

These are really nice shots Jules. You are the best! I made it to the Softball games Friday. My Neuropathy was really bad that day and only made it for two play-in games then only made it three innings into Championship game. Didn't make it to the Girls Soccer third place and Championship game at all on Saturday. I feel so bad, I want to cry!!. It was good scoring game too 8-1. Oh well next year. That is a bunch of BS they wouldn't let you shoot. I have had those problems before also. A few years back I went to Kansas University for the 6A Baseball play-ins and the Championship game. they wouldn't let me shoot from a walkway just beside the dugouts like I always had. The State guy said that KU was in charge, I thought this is your State games you should have say so. And on top of that when game was almost over I went down to that spot to get onto field to be ready to shoot after game photos of players and teams. WELL a guy stopped me and said NO WAY are you getting onto the field. I had my State credentials and everything. Pissed me off and I grabbed up my stuff and left without anymore photos. And the softball games I went to shoot they wouldn't let me shoot from anywhere on field. During the games I shot from both sides right behind dugouts, there was fence that was only 4' high so it was good to shoot from. Although as games went on I went from first base side to third base side people would move down with chairs and took may space away. Well to get to the point after second game was over I went into scoring box and my high schools AD was in there as the four field complex was owned and run by the district. I asked if I could go onto field after Champ game to take photos of players, teams, and Ceremony. We tracked down the guy in charge the AD for one of our high schools. He told me no way was I to go on the field. What a bunch of BS.Well that is my story, and photos turned out bad, can't get focused anymore I have lost it I guess. Hang in there and enjoy something with wife while we have some time off. Thanks and post more. I will never be as good as you!! BE SAFE

Heck of a story Tom, I feel your pain. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense.
We just want to shoot that's all, easy right?
Take the summer and fine tune your shooting, take pics. of moving cars, anything that moves. Practice and more practice my friend.
Be well,
Jules

Those were my thoughts exactly. Practice more and see what works the best and go from there. Don't remember if I asked you or someone else. I think you use back button focus right? Well I am so confused on that. Do you mush and focus with it and then let off button and it stays focused or do you keep finger on the button and don't let up until you are through shooting that shot?? Thanks BE SAFE my friend. Hopefully by Fall they will have their heads out of their rears and things will get back to normal.

Tom go to youtube on back button focus. It will explain all you need to know about the subject. youtube is great. Let me know what you have learned. Stay on the button and don't let up until the play is over or the runner has stopped, etc.

"... The Ball Park here in Las Vegas would not let me in. They said they already hired a company to shoot the semi-final game today." The 1st Amendment only applies to "Public" property... You have absolutely no "constructional right" protection on private land/property Jules...

That said, New Jersey is an outlier here... "...NEW JERSEY — Shopping malls must allow access to protestors distributing leaflets on social issues, the state Supreme Court ruled in mid-December... The court’s 4-3 decision interprets the state constitution as granting a broader right of free speech than the First Amendment, which the U.S. Supreme Court has held does not provide protection to activities within shopping malls or on other private property..."

I have personally been throw out of Shopping Malls by their private security guards while photographing high end fashion shop store windows to use as "Styling Examples" for fashion photo shoots... VA, DC and MD do afford any 1st Amendment "Rights" on private property. What you have been doing in the past is not germane... You were in affect working under the premise that it is easier to ask forgiveness after the fact than permission before you engaged on a "For Profit" activity on private property.

Case in point, one of my recent clients is a "Busker" i.e. a public musician who has been repeatedly thrown out of VA shopping areas that are on private land... even though the area is adjacent to a public street... She is a very sweet talented 13 year old who only was selling her CD's during her Busking sessions... The area she was preforming in had no signage indicating it was "Private Property" nor forbidding musicians from preforming in that "Open Area".

Yes America's civil laws likely have a long way too go... but that's another problem entirely...
And I abide by private property edicts... Experience is a brutal teacher...

Jules it all comes down to the fact you (and MaxPreps) are endeavoring to monetize services on private property without seeking consent from the owner(s) of said property...

The commercial provider which won the contract to photograph this event likely went through the proper channels to negotiate, gain agreement and acceptance... It's all about Contract Law Jules...

Have you considered approaching the entity that won the contract with your portfolio Jules?

Thanks for the info. obviously you have a lot more experience than I do when it comes to this.
Usually NIAA (which I am a member) holds the Nevada State Championship but this year did not because of the virus. I am sure next season high school sports will be back on an even keel.
What a year huh. I will go back to shooting the 3rd week in August if I can stand the heat. ha ha..I will be there.
Funny thing is from Round 2 had some stellar sales.
Have a great summer also and still be safe.
Jules

Understandable... especially since the third image in this series here is absolutely outstanding!
Belongs in your portfolio... Again you are an incredibly difficult act to follow...

Please enjoy your summer and stay well hydrated... that certainly helps with the heat...
