3000 miles and a puff of smoke...
Ya make reservations, ya drive 3000 miles and you end up with a smoky photo...
...but all was not lost. Deciding to drive around America we made the required reservations for entering Yosemite NP, then a leisurely drive across country visiting friends and family. Leaving Mammoth Lakes and finding out Tioga Pass was closed, we then had to drive around through Sonora pass, an excellent drive in itself but so much longer.
Anyway entering the park we were told that prescribed burning was in effect and as you can see it definitely was. The good thing is that if you waited an hour or so and a breeze picked up, you could see all the sights you wanted. However breathing was difficult at times and when you left the park you felt and smelled like you had been smoking a pork roast all day, thankfully we stayed outside the park. Not sure I would have been happy if I had been staying at the lodges though. All in all we had a great time. Even though the park required reservations, that place will be getting crowded this summer, glad we went now...Cheers
One photo of the falls shows how much smoke there was and then a couple hours later after a breeze pickup, visibility was much better.
