Is the upper plane a Texan trainer and the lower a Mustang ? Love the composition !

Going to the Reading show.
Thanks

They're not as close as they look in this super photo. (The tele squeezes them together.) And, the Navy Corsair is much larger than the Mustang, which also makes it look like it's right under the 'stang's wing.

i will be shooting WW II air craft in near future. My Sony A7 III is still new to me. What is the best metering setting on this camera for planes in the air.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Fully MANUAL .....no metering needed .....WYSIWYG - EVF
Playing at my local airport. Happy with the jet pic, prop is soft looking to me. I think it was me and my panning.
Any ideas, please comment.
Thanks.

Keep the exposure at 1/250 sec. or higher...

The colors on both are nice. I'm of the opinion you can / should just jump to 1/1000 sec for any non-prop plane (faster for screaming fighter jets). But, the focus is soft on both examples. Did you have the focus in Continuous, tracking both planes with the AF engaged, while you panned and then releasing the shutter in bursts? The prop plane looks like the AF was not engaged when the image was captured.
Focus is in Continuous high but shutter was 1/500. I will bump it it up for both.
Thanks for the info.

I believe 'continuous high' is the shutter release 'drive' mode, rather than the AF setting. Look at your AF area setting. Consider if Center or Flexible Spot will grab and hold a plane in the center of the frame. Neither of these landing planes are moving fast where 1/500 is plenty fast enough to 'freeze' them in the sky, and 1/200 sec to blur the props on the 'frozen' prop plane.
AF Continuous is AF-C on the Sony. Get the AF point on the subject and 'half hold' the shutter to engage the continuous AF on the subject as you pan with the moving plane. These examples are well positioned, so start tracking / panning a bit earlier and then press and hold completely as the plane reaches this position and continues to move toward you.
Just got my new Tamron 150-500 lens. I didn't have this lens for the WW II shoot on 6/8. So, this was my first few shots at my local airport. Please note these are SOOC.
Any comments are welcome.

Much closer, much more options for cropping into the details, especially the first!
Thanks Paul for you help....
