I find the Nikon D850 currently at $500. off very tempting. it expires on 05/30ish. I have a D810 and a D750 both with about 30,xxx clicks on them....still a lot of life left. My concerns are B&H is out of stock with availability in 2-4 weeks. Their rep stated: no eta...awaiting further inventory insight from manufacturer company. What does that mean? Amazon shows 3 available. I also saw somewhere that Nikon is having production problems on lenses since the move to Thailand. Neither of these comments are making me feel confident about purchasing an almost $2500 product from Nikon at this time. Would anyone care to comment and provide their insight, please. I'm sitting precariously on the fence and need a shove in either direction. Thank you!

Amazon shows 4 available. They are "Shipped" and "Sold" by Amazon. Amazon is a Nikon Professional Dealer. I buy a lot of Nikon gear from Amazon. In April I bought the 500mm pf and the Z 24-200. They were delivered on time, new in box. I bought my D850 from them in 2018.

I would not hesitate. It's a great camera.

---

Adorama shows them in Stock.

---

It appears that NikonUSA also has them in stock.

----

The Best Buy near me shows them available for pick up next Sunday.

----

If I am missing something that says OUT of STOCK from these places, I apologize.

To me it means that Nikon is being careful about their inventory. They don't want to have a bunch of D850 and they can't sell. They want a small inventory so they can keep saying that the D850 is not discontinued but without having to really make them.

If you want it and can afford it, by all means, get it. I have an 810 and a 750 and a couple of older ones that perform beautifully and fill all my needs. My best friend, who can afford literally any camera he wants, bought one. He's not sure if gives him much more, practically than the 810. All about what you want to do that you can't now. Nothing I do requires more than 36.3 MP, and I can't buy the time the extra MP take. Have fun, good luck, don't agonize!

I've owned the D850 for several years now with expensive Nikon lens. That said, at this point in time I would seriously look at Mirrorless cameras. The DSLR is going down and any company that wants to stay in business will put all their efforts into mirrorless. If you insist on getting the D850 the market is flooded with used models. (Folks are switching to Mirrorless). Get Slightly used models for $2000 and less for higher shutter counts. I've only shot Nikon but am looking to upgrade to Sony Mirrorless. I shoot mostly wildlife so my reason to chose Sony. All DSLR are depreciating as we speak, think Mirrorless......

I've owned the D850 for almost three years and can tell you that it is a great camera. I've had a D810 for about a year longer than that, and it is a great camera also. The D850 has some neat new features that are not available on the D810, and I've come to really like the revised control arrangement.

The sale price is really attractive. But I paid the full original price for mine and have never felt any regrets. If you are expecting a revolutionary difference from your D810, though, I think there is a good chance that you will be disappiinted. And I don't think there is reason for worry about the temporary interruption. East Asia is in the middle of the pandemic just like we are, except that they are taking a harder line to defeat it. The result is supply disruptions. My suspicion is that the same chip shortage affecting auto production is affecting camera production. You will have to decide whether you are willing to wait for delivery if you order.

Best wishes as you decide how to proceed.

If you worry about the D850: don't. If you worry about the (temporary) supply shortage: don't--demand will take care of that and Nikon is a big company. There are always rumors about Nikon or Canon or whatever tanking. My best friend manages a camera store and says that Nikon is in no danger. For $500 off--if you buy from a reputable dealer: stop fretting, pull the trigger, and have fun shooting.
BTW: I love my D850.

There are never rumors about Canon's demise ... Regarding the D850, there will never be a better DSLR from any brand than those you can still buy today in May 2021.

Now that is what I think also. If you buy a DSLR today you get the greatest and latest forever.

If you feel like you want it I say get it. I love mine. There is no better camera out there. There me be some that are lighter, track the eye better, or have other features you might like. None will ever give you better images than you can get with a D850 and decent glass.

Last time they went on sale it sold out its stock on the shelves in about 5-6 days. It was available again in a couple of weeks with the sale ended already. When I checked the last sale I only checked B&H & Nikon. I'm sure there was one sitting on a shelf in some camera shop or warehouse somewhere.

On what Nikon will or will not do only Nikon knows for sure. Everyone else only knows what they(Nikon) have in their press releases. There is no special insider info here. Your money ...your call.

Nikon lenses for the D850 will be available for years and years to come. Used Nikon lenses that fit the D850 will be available for ever.
I would check to make sure if you order the D850 from B&H now that the price will remain a sale price to you once the camera is no longer on sale. If that is true order the D850 from B&H for the sale price and while you wait for your new D850, you can enjoy your current D810 with all the lenses that will soon be transferred to the D850.

Trust B/H- never had a problem. Also check the Fred Miranda site. They had an 850 with 700 clicks for 2100. Check their Buy and Sell forum. Check the upper left hand corner of the post and see how many that person has sold and what kind of result he had. I have bought lots of stuff from Fred and Ugly.
